Praise for the 2017 History Book Festival

Authors and audiences agree: the inaugural Lewes History Book Festival was a great success.

The nation's only history book festival came to Lewes Oct. 6-7, opening to a sold-out crowd – and the First Town in the First State's passion for history burned bright throughout the event. . . . The historical society has deemed the inaugural festival a rousing success, and we agree.

By all measures, the History Book Festival debuted triumphally. The organizers went to great lengths to assure author and attendee satisfaction. And they succeeded! Engaging, enlightening, and exciting, the Festival was diverse in scope and rich in content.  I was especially honored to give the Keynote to such an enthusiastic and welcoming audience – the evening was magical.

I had the great privilege of presenting at the 2017 History Book Festival. It was an absolute delight. The organizers and hosts were extraordinarily hospitable, the events were well attended and lively, the audience was bubbling over with questions. Overall, it was a terrific and memorable experience. Great start! And, to top it off, the town of Lewes is lovely.

We owe each of you a debt of gratitude for so exceeding all expectations for the first History Book Festival. The feedback from across all audiences was consistent: they were enthralled! They loved your work and were excited by all that they learned and gained by coming to hear you. Thank you for making this book festival extraordinary!

Caroline and I were honored to be a part of the inaugural History Book Festival. While we visited Lewes many times over the years and enjoyed our visits, we had no idea how wonderful and giving the people of Lewes are! Our visit was a memorable one made possible by all the dedicated work of the Festival’s board and volunteers. Great start, great group, great potential!

The success of the History Book Festival was so exciting to see, and so invigorating for our community. There was also the excitement and enthusiasm leading into it – all the writers and readers comparing notes on what talks they’d attend, what books they were reading. To be sure, Sussex County is increasingly becoming a go-to destination for writers. And I loved how the Festival reached out to so many of our local writers to be a part of this remarkable event.
