Direct author submissions for the 2024 History Book Festival closed on March 1. Publishers/publicists may send inquiries to submissions@historybookfestival.org.

To be considered for the 2025 History Book Festival (September 26, 27, & 28, 2025), please read the selection standards below. Note that the same standards apply to all authors. We’re happy to answer any questions at submissions@historybookfestival.org.

Selection standards:

  • Self-published or digital-only work cannot be considered.

  • 2025 HBF titles must be published or released to paperback since October 1, 2024, and must be available for typical trade terms (i.e. minimum 40% discount, free freight, and return option).

  • Our program selection committee works in a series of rounds, gradually building a diverse selection of historical fiction and narrative nonfiction from various eras/topics/voices. The deadline for being included in the final round is March 1, 2025. Any qualified inquiries before that date will be entered into the next round of books. Note that some books remain in consideration throughout the process.

  • You will receive a confirmation that we received your submission, but we may not communicate again until the final round is complete.

  • We love books that have strong historical research, a compelling narrative, and a unique point of view. We love authors who can make their books come alive for an audience through engaging presentations and lively Q&As.

  • Review copies are welcome but not required. Mail to: History Book Festival Program Committee, 205 Second Street, Lewes, Delaware 19958.

  • Keep in mind: Our book festival is intimate and our program is chosen to represent a broad picture of history. Because of this, we must be very selective. If your book is not chosen for the festival, please know that does not mean that we didn’t love it.
