About the book
Ida and Louise Cook were British sisters whose passion for opera took them on frequent trips to Germany and Austria in the 1930s to see their favorite singers. But as the clouds of war gathered, the stars of Continental opera, many of whom were Jewish, faced dark futures under the Nazis. Against all odds, the sisters masterminded a plan to rescue Jews in the opera from horrific fates. Isabel Vincent reveals new details of the Cooks’ bravery and passionate commitment to saving lives and preserving the opera they loved for another generation.
