LEND US A HAND AT THE FESTIVAL

Each year we seek volunteers to serve as Site Attendants for the festival’s Keynote and Closing events, as well as our free Saturday presentations and the Spirited Discussion after-party on Saturday.

Responsibilities
Site Attendants report to the Site Manager at the assigned location, who will provide details of the work required and serve as the on-site supervisor.

As a Site Attendant, responsibilities include:

  • Commit to either the Keynote Address on Friday night, the Closing Event on Sunday afternoon, or a 2-hour shift on Saturday

  • First shift volunteers help with presentation site setup

  • Welcome attendees to the presentation

  • Hand out programs

  • Distribute and collect audience surveys

  • Answer any logistics questions attendees might have

  • Clean up the room after each presentation (remove trash and straighten chairs)

  • Last shift volunteers help with presentation site cleanup

  • Help with the Spirited Discussion after-party (setup and cleanup)

Venues
In 2023, festival venues included the Bethel United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (Friday Keynote and Saturday author presentations), the Lewes Public Library (Saturday author presentations, and Spirited Discussion after-party), the Rollins Community Center/Lewes History Museum (Saturday author presentations), and Cape Henlopen High School (the Sunday Closing Address). On Saturday, all sites were within walking distance of one another, and there was a free shuttle running between the venues.

We hope you’ll consider helping out! The History Book Festival would not happen were it not for the many volunteers who give their time, energy, and talents to make it possible. We are grateful for everyone’s efforts and participation.

Please share this link with anyone else you might think would be willing to lend a helping hand!

HELP THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

There are lots of opportunities to help during the festival, but we also need assistance throughout the year with our single-author events and with planning upcoming History Book Festivals. Join the team!
